This month we will be celebrating Earth Day on April 19th.  Conservation Chair, Chris Welch and Events Chair, Heather Lemieux have been working with the committee planning this year’s event.  Activities get underway at the Port Union Rec Centre at 10 A.M.  This is the one day of the year set aside to do something in our community for the environment.  The main activities will be cleaning up the areas where debris and garbage have collected as well as tree planting.  There will be conservation and environmental displays at the Rec. Centre.  This is an event for all members of your family so plan to attend and pitch in to make our community clean and environmentally friendly.

 

On March 17th, I attended the quarterly Waterfront Trail working Committee meeting.  I am pleased to report that construction of Phase 2 from the GO station to the Rouge River is now underway.  It is scheduled to be completed in 2011.  From the Rouge River the trail will connect with the Waterfront Trail in Pickering.  The Port Union Waterfront Improvement Project - Phase 2 Construction Newsletter is now available on-line and can be accessed by clicking on the following hyperlink:   http://www.trca.on.ca/PortUnionWaterfrontPark  

 

 

On March 29th we held our Wine Tasting experience evening.  This event was such a success last year that this year’s event was sold out before we were able to formally announce it.  Thanks to all who attended to make this evening a huge success.  Special thanks also to Events Chair Heather Lemieux and Lynn Sheppard of West Rouge Sports and Rec. who were the co-organizers of this event.

 

Next month we will be launching our official membership campaign.  Membership Chair Betty Karsh is busy organizing for the campaign.

 

Next year marks the 60th anniversary of CCRA.  Preliminary planning is underway to mark this milestone next year.  Details of the celebration will be announced in coming newsletters.
