Highland Creek Community Stewardship Program

Posted May. 08

What a ride it has been!  The Highland Creek Community Stewardship Program (HCCSP) is completing its 3rd and final year this June. Thank you to all the individuals who have helped make this project a success. We could not have done it without you!

Here’s what 3690 tireless volunteers can do:

o   Accumulate over 12,500 hours of volunteer time (that’s 520 days!)

o   Plant 8685 trees and shrubs

o   Plant 1517 wildflowers

o   Clean up 6211 kilos of garbage

The HCCSP has also been made possible through generous contributions from the Centennial Community and Recreation Association, the Friends of Highland Creek, The Scarborough Arts Council, Toronto and Region Conservation, the City of Toronto and The Ontario Trillium Foundation.

Attend the following events and celebrate the beauty of the Highland Creek watershed, and all of the volunteer’s efforts. These events will be held in conjunction with each other. You have the option to attend both, or either one separately.

What a great way to get outdoors and enjoy nature with friends and family.  Please register for either event by contacting Adam Barker at 416-698-7322, stewardship@scarborougharts.com.

 2nd Highland Creek Venturers

As mentioned in previous CCRA newsletters the Scouting youth of the 2nd Highland Creek Venturer Scouts are planning a Centennial Scouting Service Project in Africa in August this year in the Northern Ghana region near the city of Tamale.

On August 1st we’ll be heading to the airport.

Our time in Ghana will be spent assisting the construction of the sleeping dormitory at their Scout Village at Nwodua, meeting African Scouts, and some sightseeing including the Water Falls at Kintanpo & a visit to Mole National Park.

Our fundraising activities will continue through June & July as noted below.

Saturday June 14th

We will be running a raffle at Mountain Equipment Co-op on King Street West in Toronto.

June 21st & 22nd

We’ll be assisting The 29th Vintage Racing Festival at Mosport Raceway by selling their programmes.

Thursday June 26th

We will be at the Chapters Scarborough location in the evening; 10% of any purchases made by our supporters that evening at Chapters will go to fund this project – please email the address below if you would like to participate

To date we have had no success in securing computer hardware – despite contacting many retail and manufacturer locations acquiring newer lap tops has been problematic – if you think you can help please drop us a line.

To contact us or to get more information about our fundraisers please email
